We live in a world where greed, power, and political interests are more important than children's lives. It is as simple as that, a sad but actual fact; just look around. Billions and billions are being poured into conflicts and power struggles instead of fixing a broken health system or reducing the impact of climate change for future generations. It's never been more clear that they prioritize their interests over the well-being of people, even children. And will continue to do so.
These systems, as they are, are way beyond repair.
At schools, they teach children to "behave" – That is fundamentally wrong. Every child has their own uniqueness; they add new colors to this world and can enhance it with their spark. It's not the teacher's fault; they have an impossible job. It's a system-level problem.
What schools are really doing is indoctrinating children, dimming their spark, converting their uniqueness into conformity, and turning their vibrant colors into grey, leaving them no choice but to conform to the existing systems. Schools are turning into factories of conformity.
“We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.“ - Albert Einstein.
The mainstream definition of success also implies you adhere to the current institutions and systems; you play the game as you are supposed to, don't complain too much, and pay your taxes (unless you are ultra-rich, of course).
I want my daughter to be happy, not successful. I want my daughter to have critical thinking, not to behave.
So what am I doing then?
I'm teaching my daughter the importance of communities. I'm teaching my kid how nature can heal. I'm teaching them to find joy and happiness in the small things, not on ever-shifting goals someone else sets. I'm teaching my daughter to think critically and outside of the box. I'm teaching my daughter to question the status quo. I'm empowering my daughter to push hard against adultism and entitlement.
When you avoid the trap, empower your kid, and build an open, trust-based relationship, you discover you also have so much to learn from them.
Let's amplify their spark and splash the world with their unique colors. It's what the world needs!
